Acknowledgements
A project of this size and scope cannot be developed
alone. There are many people who have contributed to the
development, implementation and coordination of this
project. I want to extend special thanks to Gabriel Caro
for his careful and tireless work designing and developing
the web site and related technology. Kathryn Allegrini
worked diligently to develop the variety of documents and
materials that are part of the participant enrollment
process. Chrissy Thurmond, Jeanne Blake, and Tom Yaroschuk
have been wise advisors about how to organize, implement
and manage the Expressions project. On the
technical side, Walt Zimmerman and Jonathan Tyer have been generous with
their
consultations about photographic equipment and procedures.
James Oppenheim has been a diligent reviewer about the web
site and its organization.
A variety of people have been very helpful in
identifying sponsors for this project. Kathy Scanlan,
Peter Emerson, Mark Esterly, Jonathan Tyer, and Michael
Mulvey have been instrumental in helping assure ongoing
support for this project.
Last, but certainly not least, I want to express my
very special thanks to each of the participants in this
project. They let me into their lives, told me their
stories, and let me take their photographs. They represent
just how fragile we all can be under certain
circumstances. They also represent the tenacity of the
human spirit.
